The government may consider closing Bromma Airport prematurely, says Infrastructure Minister Tomas Eneroth (S) in an interview with Dagens Industri.
– I think Bromma should be closed down and I also do not rule out that it could happen earlier than 2038, he tells the newspaper.
The airport's permit expires in 2038 and the future of Bromma has long been a hotly debated issue, with many in both politics and business wanting to close the airport to make way for new housing. At the same time, the Social Democrats and the Green Party have had difficulty agreeing on a common solution. The MP wants to close Bromma – but not expand capacity at Arlanda in the form of a new runway.
Something Tomas Eneroth believes is crucial if air traffic in Stockholm is to be concentrated at Arlanda.
– I believe that it is a prerequisite for managing the closure of Bromma and ensuring that there is room for domestic flights. It will be absolutely crucial, he says.
