Demand for motorhomes is high in Sweden and according to the Swedish Motorhome Industry Association, many motorhome manufacturers have already sold out of next year's production.
The pandemic has led to many people both being forced and choosing to vacation in Sweden. This has led to a major shortage of motorhomes. The so-called homesteading trend is attracting many to buy a mobile home.
– It is the same tendency throughout Europe, hence the large shortage, says Lars-Erik Paulsson, head of the Swedish Caravan Industry Association, HRF, to SVT News West.
At the turn of the year, there were a total of 108,518 motorhomes registered in Sweden. During the period January to August this year, the number of newly registered motorhomes increased by almost 35 percent compared to the same time last year.
– The general impression is that it is the pandemic that is a strong contributing factor to the increase.
Global shortage
According to him, many RV manufacturers have already sold out of 2022 production. This is not only due to the increased interest in RVs but also to the global shortage of semiconductors.
– It has affected the entire automotive industry, which has had delivery problems because of it. The ones who are now noticing the shortage are motorhome dealers.
But is there room for all these motorhomes?
– It is true that the opportunity to spontaneously go to campsites has decreased. It is now more common to have to pre-book in order to get a place for your vehicle.
