Sun loungers and parasols will soon be in place in Greece – which is preparing to reopen to tourists in May. Last year was the worst in decades for the tourism industry, which is so important to the Greek economy.

Greece is one of the countries advocating for Europe to develop a common ”vaccination passport.” But the country will open to international visitors regardless, according to Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis.

”"People who are vaccinated, have tested negative or recovered from the disease and have antibodies are welcome to Greece," he told Reuters news agency.

”We will welcome them regardless of agreement or not.”

Last year, only 7.4 million people traveled to Greece. This compares to 2019, when a record number of tourists – 31.3 million – went there.
