The EU's Innovation Fund is supporting the Swedish project to produce synthetic sustainable aviation fuel with 80 million euros, equivalent to almost 900 million kronor.
The parties involved in the project are Vattenfall, Shell, Lanzatech and with SAS as the intended user of the fuel.
The so-called electrofuel is produced with fossil-free electricity and, in this case, captured carbon dioxide from district heating production, according to Vattenfall.
The facility is intended to be located near Forsmark and, at full production, will be able to produce at least 25 percent of SAS's needs for sustainable aviation fuel by 2030.
A possible investment decision will come later.
