Abu Dhabi has set the opening date for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. The museum of modern and contemporary art will open on December 11, 2026, and will be a new addition to the Saadiyat Cultural District.

The museum is part of the Guggenheim network, which also includes museums in New York, Venice and Bilbao, but will also have its own identity with a focus on art from the United Arab Emirates, the region and the rest of the world.

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will be part of a growing cultural cluster on Saadiyat Island, which also includes Louvre Abu Dhabi, the upcoming Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.

Designed by award-winning architect Frank Gehry, the 80,000-square-meter building will feature 30 galleries, a central atrium, and ten distinctive cone-shaped towers that will contribute to natural ventilation and energy efficiency.

Since 2009, the museum has been building a collection of modern and contemporary art from around the world. The exhibitions will focus on themes such as abstraction, popular culture, landscape, language and storytelling, with the ambition to show how art has developed globally since 1960.

“The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is a milestone in our cultural development. The museum will create new opportunities for learning, creativity and cultural exchange while presenting new perspectives on modern and contemporary art from around the world,” said Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

The opening strengthens Abu Dhabi's efforts to establish itself as an international destination for arts and culture.
