British Airways has been hacked and large amounts of customer information have been stolen, the airline says.

The information that the hackers may have accessed between August 21 and September 5 includes around 380,000 payment cards.

”"We are urgently investigating the theft of customer data from our website and mobile app. The stolen data does not include travel or passport information," British Airways wrote in a statement, apologizing for the incident.

Customers who may have been affected by the data breach are urged to contact their bank.

The police in the UK and other relevant authorities have been informed of the incident.
