New year means new flight routes.
This year's news includes Ryanair's direct route between Gothenburg and Barcelona and SAS's summer route between Arlanda and Catania in Sicily.
Swedes are a flying people and demand for new routes is high despite discussions about the climate impact of flying. In the run-up to the new year, Swedavia is presenting eleven new routes from the largest airports, Arlanda in Stockholm and Landvetter in Gothenburg.
Landvetter will have new routes to Prague, Barcelona and Stuttgart, which will operate year-round. The new route between Landvetter and Faro in Portugal will only operate during the summer.
Arlanda will have new routes to Marseille, Catania and Naples during the summer. Stockholmers can also take a direct flight to Östersund during the high ski season, starting on December 27 and continuing until March 28.
Stable number of air travelers
The number of international passengers at Swedavia's ten airports during November was 2,032,000, a largely unchanged level compared to last year. Both Arlanda and Landvetter show an increase of one percent in the total number of passengers, both international and domestic passengers, during the period January to November 2018, while the number of passengers at Swedavia's other airports is decreasing. The increase at the larger airports means that the total number of passengers from Swedavia's ten airports remains unchanged compared to the same period in 2017.
