Havila Voyages, which operates along the beautiful Norwegian coast with a clear focus on sustainability, is reporting on new travel habits where guests are requesting more flexibility without compromising on comfort, quality, and responsibility.
In 2025, Havila Voyages experienced increased demand with passenger growth of 14 percent and a growing interest in sustainable travel experiences along the Norwegian coast. This is according to the company's new annual and sustainability report, which also points to new trends in guest travel habits.
According to Havila Voyages, an increasing number of travellers today are seeking shorter and more flexible journeys – without compromising on comfort, quality, and sustainability. The company is clearly noticing this trend.
– We are seeing a clear trend where guests are requesting both shorter and more flexible travel experiences. Therefore, we are actively working to adapt our products, while retaining what makes us unique: high quality, modern and responsible solutions, and not least, fantastic nature experiences, says CEO of Havila Kystruten, Bent Martini.
Modern comfort and a lower climate footprint
Havila Voyages has for a long time worked purposefully to develop travel experiences that combine modern comfort with a lower climate footprint and stronger local experiences along the entire Norwegian coast.
Sustainability continues to play a central role in the company's strategy. During 2025, Havila Voyages further reduced its CO₂ emissions and, among other things, completed a historic, climate-neutral round trip with the vessel Havila Polaris using biogas. The journey resulted in a documented reduction in emissions of over 95 percent.
– The journey showed that it is possible to meet higher environmental requirements on the coastline during the next contract period, without compromising safety or operational efficiency, says Martini.
The shipping company, which reports high customer satisfaction and increased loyalty, is continuing to work on new solutions for alternative fuels, energy-efficient operations, and reduced food waste on board.
"Sustainability is not just a prerequisite for the future; it's also a crucial factor for trust, loyalty, and value creation. We're seeing that more and more people are choosing us precisely because we have a clear strategy in this area," says Martini.
Havila Voyages also highlights stable operations and cooperation with local communities along the coastline as an important part of the company's identity. The goal remains to create value for travellers, employees, and the coastal communities that the ships visit all year round.
With increasing demand and a growing focus on sustainable travel, Havila Voyages is optimistic about developments in the coming years. Read the company's annual and sustainability report. here.
