Heat pump family buys classic sailing hotel

The classic Sandhamn Seglarhotell has now been sold. WM-data founder Hans Mellström, who has owned the facility for 20 years, is now handing over the hotel keys to the real estate company Gillesvik, owned by the heat pump family Kastengren.

”"After having been active in Sandhamn for 20 years, it feels fantastic for me and my family to sell properties and operations to a family business that sees its commitment as long-term," says Hans Mellström.

The now 77-year-old Hans Mellström bought the properties at Sandhamn in 1999, including the historic Seglarrestaurangen and the same year the sailing hotel was built. Last summer it became clear that Viamare Invest, the hotel and boat empire that Hans Mellström built when he liquidated his participation in WM-data, wanted to sell the property.

The hotel has long been a bad business for Viamare and years of losses have even come close to sinking the company.
