Even though it's winter in Bolivia and Peru, snow is far from a common sight. But South Americans still have reason to pull out warm jackets and mittens now that a major snowstorm has arrived.
Residents of Potosi, in southwestern Bolivia, were forced to cancel soccer matches on Tuesday due to heavy snowfall. Temperatures dropped, creating perfect snow conditions, and some took the opportunity to have snowball fights in the streets, Reuters reports.
In Arequipa, Peru, the atmosphere along the country roads was not as cheerful. Many cars and trucks were stopped when the road surface was changed.
"The weather is very harsh and we are getting nowhere. We are stuck," a driver outside Arequipa told Reuters.
