A powerful earthquake has struck the Greek island of Crete.

According to the Seismological Center for Europe and the Mediterranean, the earthquake measured 5.3 on the Richter scale and was reportedly at a depth of 45 kilometers.

The earthquake occurred at 4:26 p.m. local time.
