Hertz says the car rental company could provide 150,000 Tesla cars to online taxi service Uber over the next three years, up from the initial fleet of 50,000 cars, if the partnership is successful.

Reuters writes.

”Hertz will kick off the program by providing 50,000 vehicles by 2023 to Uber drivers only. If successful, the program could expand to 150,000 Tesla vehicles over the next three years,” Hertz wrote in a statement to Reuters.

However, ambitions could be affected by factors such as semiconductor shortages or other limitations, Hertz wrote further.

Tesla shares were up 3.1 percent around 7 p.m. Hertz shares are trading up 5.3 percent.

Reuters then wrote that Hertz's CEO talked about the plan in an interview with CNN on Wednesday.
