Hertz Sweden had its best summer to date during June–August 2026. August was also the company's strongest single month ever, with growth of 10 percent compared to last year.
Demand for rental cars was high throughout the summer and at several of Hertz's largest rental stations, the occupancy rate was above 90 percent for extended periods.
The growth comes from both the Swedish market and international visitors. Hertz points in particular to increased demand at Arlanda and Landvetter as well as at the company's city offices in the larger Swedish cities.
– August grew by 10 percent compared to last year and at many of our largest rental locations we have had an occupancy rate of over 90 percent for long periods, says Mattias Wäne, CEO of Hertz Sweden.
More foreign visitors rent cars
Hertz links part of the development to increased international travel to Sweden. According to statistics from Visita, which Hertz refers to, foreign guest nights at Swedish hotels increased by 14 percent during the summer.
The company states that more European visitors in particular are choosing rental cars to travel further outside the larger Swedish cities.
According to Hertz, international demand is also helping to extend the peak season. European visitors continue to travel after the traditional Swedish holiday period.
– We see a growing interest in Sweden among European travelers, where many want to experience more than our big cities. The car gives the freedom to discover more of the country, says Mattias Wäne.
Hertz does not provide any information on turnover or total number of rentals during the record summer.
