The sports holidays are approaching and in connection with the announcement that the restrictions will soon be lifted, Swedes' interest in travel is increasing - within Sweden's borders and abroad.

Booking pressure in the Swedish mountains is high, but interest in traveling to the Alps has also increased. 

– It's no secret that we are leaving three tough seasons behind us, so it's incredibly fun that travel is starting to pick up and that people are daring to travel again, says Hanna Bernvid, CEO of STS Alpresor.  

Changing travel patterns

The proportion of booked hotel rooms in Sweden for February has more than doubled since last year, an increase of 113 percent. An increase is also visible for March, where the proportion of booked hotel rooms is 72 percent higher compared to March 2021. However, the levels are not as high as before the pandemic, there are 30 percent fewer hotel rooms booked in March compared to 2019. 

Travel expert Lottie Knutson, who previously worked at Fritidsresor and Sas, among others, believes it may be a while before we start traveling like before the pandemic.  

– It is not certain that we will travel to the same extent, I think many people will change their travel patterns and stay more within Europe, she says.
