Many Swedes are choosing to travel during the upcoming Easter holiday. Travel company TUI reports that bookings are 700 percent higher compared to Easter last year and that they have put in extra flights to meet the high demand for travel.

After two years of limited freedom of movement, many Swedes are longing to travel again. This is clearly visible at the tour operator TUI, where the upcoming Easter holiday is basically fully booked, the company has put in extra flights to meet the demand of Swedes. They report an increase in the number of booked trips by 700 percent compared to the Easter holiday in 2021, which is basically the same levels as before the pandemic. Travel is also expected to become easier as several countries within the EU and EEA have recently lifted entry bans to their respective countries and various types of restrictions, which Sweden has now also followed. The fact that Swedes are ready to travel is also visible for the summer, where an increase of 30 percent can be seen last week compared to the week before.

– We are happy that so many Swedes will have the opportunity to get away to the sun during the Easter break. The increasing demand for travel already in the spring shows us that there will also be a lot of travel this coming summer. Says Adam Györki, Head of Communications at TUI.

The Canary Islands are among the top destinations for the Easter holidays, but also Cape Verde, Mexico and Thailand. A big difference compared to before the pandemic is that large groups are now traveling together, which has increased by 65 percent.

– A big trend we've noticed since the pandemic is that people now want to experience things together. Large groups traveling together have increased by 65 percent. Many have been restricted from seeing their loved ones during the pandemic and now want to make up for this through quality time where you hang out and experience things together. Continues Adam Györki.
