At exactly 07:11 (CET) on January 15, a historic space launch will take place. Then the iconic Swedish red cottage with white knots may take the step from being a symbol of Swedish countryside idyll to also becoming a space icon!
The Swedish Moon House lifts off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and after a four-month journey through space, the red house lands and becomes the first building on the moon. The idea and vision behind the project comes from Swedish artist Mikael Genbergs, who states, ”It only took 25 years.”.
A completely unique cottage
This is neither the plot of Fly Me to the Moon or a new sci-fi blockbuster! Soon a red cottage with white knots – an iconic symbol of Swedish idyll and charm – will take its place on the moon. The Moon House is not a holiday home (yet), but a clear expression of artist Mikael Genberg's passion for uniting art, architecture and innovation.

Mikael Genberg is used to defying the law of gravity. Through accommodations like the tree house Hotel Woodpecker and the underwater dwelling Hotel Utter Inn His projects have impressed visitors both in and outside his hometown of Västerås. In 2009, Genberg sent a work of art to the International Space Station together with Sweden's first astronaut, Christer Fuglesang.
This time, Genberg's dream is literally taking flight all the way to the moon. Thanks to a collaboration with Japanese ispace’'s lunar rover TENACIOUS and the lunar lander RESILIENCE his Moon House will soon land on the moon.
