Hong Kong is easing quarantine rules for travelers from overseas. Starting Friday, incoming travelers will be quarantined for three days instead of one week, announced new leader John Lee.
Everyone arriving in Hong Kong will be quarantined in a hotel for three days starting Friday. For the next four days, they will be monitored and have limited freedom of movement, but will be able to stay at home or in a hotel of their choice.
Three days of quarantine is the shortest time since the pandemic started.
An additional 259 Covid cases have been reported in the southern Chinese island province of Hainan, where around 80,000 tourists have been stranded as a result of strict pandemic restrictions imposed on Saturday.
There are many tourists on the island who now have to test negative five times in seven days to be allowed to leave the island.
Nationwide, China reported 324 new locally transmitted cases and 483 asymptomatic cases, which the country reported separately. The statistics come from Chinese authorities and are difficult to verify.
China is sticking to its strict zero-COVID policy, where harsh restrictions are still used to keep the spread of the infection under control.
