The coronavirus crisis has caused the global hotel and tourism industry to more or less collapse. But some companies have managed to find a niche that keeps them afloat.

Swiss luxury apartment rental company Le Bijou is now targeting wealthy customers who want to be extra comfortable during quarantine, offering add-ons such as grocery delivery or takeout, doctor visits and in-room virus testing.

At the end of February, the usual forms of booking suddenly began to decline rapidly as foreign tourists no longer arrived in the same numbers, says Le Bijou CEO Alexander Hubner. At the same time, other bookings began to be made for unusually long periods of time – two weeks or longer.

”We realized that we needed to offer a new service and adapt as quickly as possible, so we started offering these quarantine apartments,” says Hubner.

Not just anyone can check into the apartments. They usually cost up to 2,000 Swiss francs (nearly 21,000 SEK) a night to rent, although Hubner says he has pushed down the price for the quarantine apartments.
