Schedule chaos and staff shortages have forced SJ to cancel departure after departure recently.
In a last-minute attempt to solve the staff shortage before Christmas, SJ sent an SMS to its employees earlier this week with a request to work extra time in exchange for a compensation of 4,500 kronor per shift, reports P4 Gothenburg.
– It has had a noticeable effect, says Peter Krameus, press communicator at SJ, to Gothenburg Post, but does not want to state how many there are.
This week, SJ announced that 30 departures will be cancelled during the Christmas week and another 30 will be cancelled between Christmas and New Year. But SJ says that it is the trains that are being cancelled, not the number of seats. Instead, they are adding more carriages to the trains that are still running, and rebooking the affected Christmas travelers to other departures.
