Hudik first to cross the 30-degree mark

After weeks of heat in large parts of Sweden, the 30-degree mark has now been passed for the first time this year.

On Tuesday, 30.3 degrees were measured in Hudiksvall, SMHI announced.

The warm, dry and sunny weather will continue over the next few days. In some places in Götaland and Svealand it is extremely dry with a very high risk of forest and soil fires. There is also a risk of fires in Norrland, although it is not extremely dry. There, it is instead last year's grass that poses the fire risk.

But even though large parts of Sweden, and especially Hudiksvall on Tuesday, are sweating, there are places in Sweden where the heat wave feels far away. On Tuesday it was 2.1 degrees in Tarfala in the Kebnekai Mountains.
– Long underwear is still the rule, it's like winter, says Carl Lundberg, one of three people who work at the Tarfala research station, to SVT News Norrbotten.
The station, which is run by Stockholm University, is dedicated to glacier research. On Monday, the employees were out skiing.
– We've heard about the heat on the news, but it's a bit hard to understand, says Lundberg, who is not envious of those who get to experience the heat.
– We feel a bit the opposite about ”poor people who have to be in that heat”. You don't choose to work here if you don't like the cold.
