Over 400 tourists have been evacuated from the Peruvian tourist attraction Machu Picchu, authorities say.

For over a month, supporters of ousted President Pedro Castillo have been protesting in the country. The unrest has so far claimed the lives of at least 45 people, including a police officer.

As a direct result of the violence, the authorities decided on Saturday to close the country's largest tourist attraction, the Inca city and World Heritage Site Machu Picchu.
