The airline Icelandair has signed an agreement with aircraft manufacturer Airbus to purchase 13 Airbus A321XLR aircraft and the right to purchase an additional 12 aircraft.
In a press release, Icelandair writes that deliveries will begin in 2029. However, the company plans to start flying with Airbus aircraft as early as 2025 and is in talks about leasing four Airbus A321LRs.
The price of the first 13 planes is confidential, according to Icelandair. The financing remains to be seen, and the company says it will look more closely at different options as deliveries approach.
”"We are pleased to announce that we have reached a conclusion regarding Icelandair's future fleet. We have decided that the capable and fuel-efficient Airbus A321XLR and A321LR aircraft will replace the Boeing 757s that we are gradually retiring," says Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair, in a comment.
