The Indian government chooses to postpone the sale of Air India because it is an election year.
The airline will, in the meantime, continue to be supported with public funds, an official told The Economic Times of India.
Air India, like SAS, is part of the Star Alliance. However, the airline giant is heavily indebted, which has made the process of finding a new buyer more difficult.
The government is trying to sell a 76 percent stake in the company.
