A huge forest fire is raging in Limassol on the southern coast of Cyprus. 

Residents have been evacuated from their homes in the fire-ravaged villages and homes have suffered "significant damage," according to a fire department spokesman, Reuters writes. 

Nearby Jordan is sending help to fight the flames. 

”"The situation is very difficult and the fire front is huge. All forces have been mobilized," President Nikos Christodoulides told the press. 

Three people have been taken to hospital, two of whom have suffered burns, local media reports. 

During the day, a heat wave has swept across the country. Inland, it was 43 degrees during the day and tomorrow is expected to be the hottest day of the year with up to 44 degrees.
