Swedes' interest in train travel in other countries continues to persist.

Last spring, it was predicted that sales of Interrail passes this year would increase by around 60 percent compared to last year, when 17,000 passes were sold. Now the increase looks set to be significantly greater.

During the first seven months of this year, 85 percent more Interrail passes were sold compared to the same period last year, according to the company Silverrail, which distributes the service to Swedish retailers, writes Southern Swedish.

– In the first half of this year, it is the group of adults that has increased, i.e. 28–60 years old. This may be due a little to the debate about flight shame, but I believe more in the different factor, that people are tired of the usual charter trip to the Mediterranean, says Jonas Falk, sales manager at Silverrail, to the newspaper.
