It's almost time for Easter holidays around the country.

Isn't it wonderful to be outdoors as much as possible? In times where young people in Sweden spend 70 percent of their waking time sitting still, the holidays are a great opportunity to be inspired to enjoy movement in nature.

– If you have the opportunity to be free, there are lots of simple tips for getting out into the woods and fields. It doesn't have to cost anything, outdoor activities are for everyone, says Kristina Ljungros, Secretary General at Friluftsfrämjandet.

During the Easter holidays, many people go to the mountains to ski, but far from everyone has the financial means to buy a week's worth of accommodation, equipment and lift passes. A good tip is to check where the nearest ski slope is.

– The local ski slopes are a fantastic opportunity to get out and get some exercise. They welcome both children and adults and usually have significantly lower prices than in the mountains, says Kristina Ljungros.

However, snow can be in short supply in many parts of the country - so what can you do during the Easter break? Here are some simple tips!

Bring out the bike…

…but don’t forget to give it a spring makeover! Wash it, lubricate the brake and shift cables, examine the rubber parts and make sure they don’t have any major cracks, check all hard surfaces such as bolts, frame and seat post. Also remember that children grow and that you may need to adjust the saddle and handlebars. Then all you have to do is go for a bike ride in nature!

Go for a walk

Many people think that hiking belongs in the mountains, but there is much to discover in the lowland nature. Many gems are within commuting distance of big cities. There are often prepared rest areas with windbreaks, fireplaces and firewood. Equipment that you already have at home will go a long way – you need a pair of shoes that fit well, a protective jacket against wind and light rain, a daypack with water and food.

Go reflex walking

Even in the dark, nature is exciting! Set up reflectors at a suitable distance. Find them with each flashlight and follow them together. Maybe you'll find a treasure? Take your dinner with you so you can eat it in nature to finish!

Practice your home preparedness

Be crisis-wise this Easter! If the electricity goes out, the water stops flowing and the phone doesn't work – what do you do? By planning for food, water, heating and communication, and getting to know your neighbors, you are well prepared if a crisis should come. A fun way to get out into nature could be to cook crisis-wise food for lunch over an open fire. Why not invite a neighbor or two? Go on leader-led adventures

Ps – if you are a member and want to carpool to the adventures, you can use the carpooling platform that Friluftsfrämjandet has launched together with the Skjutsgruppen and the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.
