Japan has raised visa prices for the first time since 1978. The fees will be up to five times higher, CNBC reports.
Travellers who need a visa to enter Japan will have to pay a significantly higher sum from the end of the month.
Applying for a visa to enter the country once will now cost 15,000 yen, equivalent to around 900 kronor, up from the previous 3,000 yen. A multiple-entry visa will cost 30,000 yen, compared to the previous 6,000 yen.
Swedish citizens may, however, stay in Japan for up to 90 days without a visa.
Tourism has increased significantly in Japan in recent years. The country welcomed a record number of visitors during 2024 and 2025, with 36.8 million and 42.6 million arrivals respectively.
