After several years of work, Jernhusen's new station building in Varberg is now opening. A 2,800 square meter building has been built with the traveler and sustainability in focus. Through a varied offering, the station building will become a vibrant hub that also takes care of an increasing number of travelers along the west coast.  

Varberg's new station building is now ready and will welcome everyone on July 13, when the building will be opened to the public. Here, Jernhusen has developed a modern, accessible and inclusive station building with space for retail, food and passenger services. The building also features a brand new artwork by Juri Markkula.  

The station building will contribute to the growth of Western Sweden, create a future-proof station for future generations and meet the demand for travel along the entire west coast.  

– We are now on the threshold of the Varberg of the future. It was 145 years since the old station building was inaugurated, and now it is time again to create life and movement in central Varberg. The new station building will stand for at least another 145 years and is an important part of meeting the future needs of the region, with more passengers and more frequent traffic. We want to offer all passengers and visitors a safe hub that strengthens the city center and makes Varberg even more vibrant, says Biljana Pehrsson, CEO of Jernhusen. 

The building has been filled with a number of exciting tenants. One example is Hallandstrafiken, which is opening a nice new travel shop here.  

– Nowadays, it is not entirely obvious to be able to buy travel and get service on site at the station. That is why we are very happy that Hallandstrafiken is investing in a travel shop and believe that it will add great value to travelers, continues Biljana Pehrsson.  

In addition, there is Pressbyrån, the hairdresser Alpha Cuts, an ATM and Studio Terra – a shop with local specialties, a yoga studio, training, treatments and art in the building. The range will gradually be expanded further.  

Part of a larger whole  

At the same time, the Swedish Transport Administration's tunnel and new double tracks, as well as Varberg Municipality's developed station area, are inaugurated. Now travel times will be shorter, departures will be more frequent and conditions will be created for the city to grow towards the sea when the tracks disappear underground. 

The station building, tunnel and station area will be inaugurated on Sunday, July 13.
