This July was one of the three warmest on record on Earth. In Europe, it was the sixth warmest July on record, reports the EU's climate service Copernicus.
During the heat wave that swept across parts of Europe in mid-July, temperatures of over 40 degrees were measured in parts of Portugal, Spain, France and the United Kingdom.
Elsewhere, temperatures were lower than usual, including in large parts of Central Asia and most of Australia.
”"We can expect more frequent and longer periods of extremely high temperatures, as global temperatures increase further," says climate scientist Freja Vamborg at Copernicus in a press release.
