Kalmar's accommodation facilities have seen steady growth over the past ten years. Now the definitive statistics* for 2025 are here and they show a new record for the number of guest nights in Kalmar.
In 2025, Kalmar had a total of 452,248 guest nights. This is an increase of 1.4 percent compared to 2024 and is also 0.4 percent higher than 2022, which was the last record year. If we look back ten years, to 2015, the increase is a whopping 21.8 percent.
Of the guest nights in 2025, 81 percent are Swedish visitors and 19 percent are international visitors.
– This year, Swedish visitors account for the largest increase, but if we look at the entire ten-year period, we see a clear increase in both Swedish and international guests, says Stefan Johnson, tourism manager, Destination Kalmar.
The fact that Kalmar has gained more hotel rooms is an important prerequisite for the positive development. In addition, active work is underway to develop Kalmar as a year-round destination. Kalmar should have strong travel reasons throughout the year and during the low season, meetings, events and cups are a good way to attract visitors.
– The last ten years show a very positive development and it is nice to see that Kalmar is not only a popular destination during the summer months. We are growing during several months, for example April, May, June, September and December. This shows that our work to develop Kalmar all year round is yielding results, adds Stefan Johnson.
