Electric flight in the Kvarken region may sound like pure science fiction, but it could become a reality in the near future. At least if the Kvarken Council has its way.
How about traveling with a small electric plane between Skellefteå and Vaasa, or between Örnsköldsvik and Lycksele – at the same cost as a regular scheduled flight?
It may sound utopian, but it will be a reality in the near future. At least if the Kvarken Council gets its way.
– We have now gathered the region's stakeholders to enter into a feasibility study application regarding the establishment of electric aviation in the Kvarken region, says Mathias Lindström, director of the Kvarken Council.
Electric aviation in the Kvarken region may sound like pure science fiction, given the region's sparsely populated nature, large distances, and how several infrastructure branches are being phased out rather than developed.
But Mathias Lindström believes that the cheap operation of electric aircraft completely changes the playing field for air traffic and means that airports in smaller towns can soon be operated at a profit. Which makes it clear that they should be upgraded rather than closed down.
