Latin America's largest airline, Latam, has filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States, according to a statement from the airline.

The company has operations in Brazil, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.

Last month, the company cut traffic by 95 percent as a consequence of the corona pandemic.

Initially, continued air traffic will not be affected by the reconstruction.
