Bookings to Portugal are increasing rapidly for the summer. According to recent booking statistics from the travel agency Ticket, Lisbon is this summer's big hit among Swedish travellers, with an increase of 90 percent compared to last year. Bookings to the Algarve are also increasing for the summer.

Lisbon is the big hit of the summer among Swedish travellers. Bookings to Portugal's capital have increased by a massive 90 per cent compared to last summer, and the destination is now taking its place as a newcomer on the travel agency Ticket's top 10 list of the most booked summer destinations for summer 2026.

Bookings to the Algarve have also increased, with a rise of 59 percent compared to last year. Meanwhile, Lisbon is clearly the most popular destination in Portugal among Swedish travellers, as bookings to the capital are more than double those for the Algarve.

– Portugal continues to attract more and more Swedish travellers, and Lisbon in particular has become very popular heading into the summer. Many appreciate that the destination offers city life, proximity to the sea, and a wide range of restaurants and experiences, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and Communications Manager at Ticket.

Portugal also offers many festivals and events during the summer. One of the most popular is the Santo António festival in Lisbon in June, when the city's neighbourhoods are filled with music, street parties and celebrations late into the night.

– Discovering local festivals, concerts, and traditions during your trip really adds to the holiday feeling. Portugal offers a great deal to see and experience during the summer months, both in the big cities and along the coast, says Tiyoneh Jah.

Tips for those who want to experience Portugal this summer

  1. Discover Lisbon with tram 28
The classic yellow tram takes visitors through several of the city's most popular areas, including Alfama, Graça and Baixa. The tour passes historic districts, viewpoints and narrow cobbled streets that have become hallmarks of Lisbon.

  2. Visit Pena Palace in Sintra
Around 40 minutes from Lisbon lies Sintra with its colourful palaces and lush surroundings. Pena Palace is one of Portugal's most visited castles and offers views over both the coast and mountains.

  3. Explore the Benagil Caves in the Algarve
Along the Algarve coast, boat trips to the Benagil caves are one of the most popular excursions in the summer. The well-known rock formations and caves are easiest to reach by boat or kayak from the coastal towns around Lagoa.

  4. Visit the Port wine lodges in Porto
In Vila Nova de Gaia, on the other side of the Douro River from central Porto, you'll find several classic port wine lodges where visitors can take guided tours and enjoy tastings.

  5. Take a day trip to Cascais or Costa da Caparica
From Lisbon, it's easy to get to coastal towns like Cascais and Costa da Caparica for those who want to combine city life with beach and swimming during their holiday.
