Lower passenger growth for Lufthansa in July

Lufthansa increased the number of passengers by 3.3 percent to 14.6 million in July, compared to the same month a year earlier. The month before, growth was 4.5 percent.

Measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), the airline's traffic increased by 3.1 percent during the month. The previous month, growth was 4.9 percent.

Capacity, measured as ASK, increased by 2.5 percent during the month. The previous month, growth was 2.9 percent.

The cabin factor was 86.9 percent during the month. The previous month, the cabin factor was 85.2 percent.

”"Both for the month of July and for the year to date, the group has achieved historic levels in terms of both passenger numbers and cabin factor," the airline writes in a press release.

The largest increase in passenger numbers was seen at the airline's hub in Zurich, Switzerland, up 6.5 percent. In Vienna and Munich, passenger numbers increased by 5.7 and 5.6 percent respectively. However, in Frankfurt, passenger numbers decreased by 0.4 percent.

Low-cost airline Eurowings carried 4 million passengers in July. The majority, 3.7 million, flew short-haul flights. While the number of passengers on short-haul flights increased by 2.2 percent year-on-year, the number of passengers on long-haul flights decreased by 6.3 percent.

The stock is down slightly in Frankfurt after the figures were published. After recovering slightly at lunchtime, the price is down 3.7 percent again.
