The airline Lufthansa is tightening its belt even more as a result of the worsening pandemic situation. 

On Sunday, the company's management informed its staff of further measures - including temporarily closing large parts of its administration, reducing the number of flights again and concentrating operations in Germany even more in Frankfurt, Handelsblatt writes.

The measures, collectively described as a ”winter mode”, mean that the group’s headquarters in Frankfurt will be largely closed, except for essential functions. The subsidiary Eurowings will also completely abandon its offices in Düsseldorf. 

Regarding flights, a total of 125 aircraft will be taken out of service, previously intended for the operation of the already shrunken winter schedule. 

”"Our airlines will be able to offer a maximum of a quarter of the capacity of previous years, in some cases significantly lower than that. In a historical comparison, we are approximately at the level of the mid-1970s," Lufthansa writes in the letter to staff.

At around 10 a.m., Lufthansa's stock had traded down just over 2 percent.
