Chinese Macau is reopening its beaches after they were closed due to a Covid outbreak.

Residents, however, are allowed to go to the beach "for walks and relaxation," but swimming and water sports are prohibited in the semi-independent casino metropolis, where temperatures reached 34 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Beachgoers must wear face masks at all times, maintain physical distance, and avoid crowds and strenuous activities, the authorities say.

Wednesday was the first time Macau reported no new Covid cases since the latest outbreak began in mid-June.

Macau is under China's strict zero-COVID policy, where strict restrictions are still used to keep the spread of the infection under control.
