The majority of the virus restrictions that have been in force in France's 19 most affected regions have been extended for another four weeks and now apply to the entire country, the country's President Emmanuel Macron announced in a televised address on Wednesday evening.
Schools in France are to be closed for three weeks.
This is the country's third so-called lockdown, or period of strict virus restrictions, since the coronavirus pandemic became a reality. For the 19 most affected regions, it already began two weekends ago, but no schools were closed then.
