After more than a day, the fire is still burning in Hotel Kärnan in central Helsingborg. "The top floors are gone," says Jonas Nylén of the rescue service.
Since Saturday night, the fire service has been fighting the fire in the hotel building, which was closed for renovation and therefore had no guests.
The fire has been difficult to extinguish, and during the night until Sunday, six units from the emergency services were on site.
”"It has been fairly controlled during the night. It has burned, but at a low intensity, and we believe that we have a good chance of ensuring that the fire does not spread to neighboring properties," says Jonas Nylén, the on-duty rescue manager.
Occasionally it blows up and the firefighters have to put it out, and in between lift away material.
”"A number of floors have collapsed into the building, and the top floors are no longer there," says Jonas Nylén.
In addition, there is a risk of collapse from the facade, and therefore two streets, Järnvägsgatan and Södra Strandgatan, remain closed. It is also unclear when the 40 or so people who were evacuated from adjacent properties will be able to return.
