The airports in the country's four northernmost counties have lost 50,000 travelers during the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, reports P4 Västerbotten.
At some airports, the number of passengers is increasing marginally, but overall there is a clear decline.
Swedavia, which operates several airports, points to the debate about the environmental impact of aviation as a reason for the change.
”"We welcome the debate and discussions about how we can quickly change so that flying becomes a more environmentally friendly alternative," she tells the radio.
She does not rule out that the downturn could have consequences for the company.
”"It is clear that we adapt the suit to the traffic we have. We have no plans right now, it depends on how the airlines operate, which in turn determines how many staff we need."”
