Strikes are currently underway at several of Spain's major airports, including Madrid and Barcelona, but also in the Canary Islands.

The strike is taking place at the same time as over a million people are expected to travel to the country, writes The Mirror. 

On Monday, staff at twelve airports around Spain went on strike, reports The Mirror. The strike comes as more than a million travelers are expected to travel to the country over the Easter weekend, according to the British newspaper.

More than 5,000 airport employees have gone on strike due to a wage dispute.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, staff from the land management company Groundforce will strike during three different time intervals: 05:00 – 07:00, 11:00 – 17:00 and 22:00 to midnight.

If no agreement is reached, staff from the Menzie company, which handles baggage, plan to stop all work around the clock from April 2 to 4, according to The Independent.

Euronews reports that flights will continue to operate despite this. However, the newspaper writes that travelers should expect longer lines at check-in and baggage drop-off, as well as delays with luggage, boarding and disembarking.
