Summer travel bookings have increased by 11 percent compared to last year, and Spain continues to dominate Swedes' holiday plans. This is according to fresh booking statistics from the travel agency Ticket for the summer.
Malaga is the most booked destination of the summer, climbing to first place on Ticket's top list of Swedes' favourite destinations. Bookings to the Spanish Costa del Sol have increased by 25 per cent compared to last summer.
Alicante and Mallorca also maintain their strong positions on the list with increased bookings compared to last year.
– We are seeing continued strong interest in European destinations where many people want to combine sun, food, experiences and shorter travel times. Several destinations around the Mediterranean will therefore continue to attract Swedes for the summer, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and Communications Manager at Ticket.
Interest in other European destinations also continues to grow. London climbs from tenth to sixth place after a 39 per cent increase, while Lisbon takes a spot as a newcomer on this year's top 10 list after bookings increased by 90 per cent compared to last summer. This development has contributed to Rhodes losing its place on Ticket's top list.
Bangkok also loses a place compared to last year, suggesting that more people are choosing European destinations this summer.
