The Balearic Islands want to ban people who do not live there permanently from buying homes and properties on the islands.
The region's vice president, Juan Pedro Yllanes, has asked the Spanish government to put pressure on the EU on the issue, as it conflicts with the Union's rules on free movement, reports The Guardian.
The reason is that foreign buyers are pushing up prices in Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca, among other places, to levels that locals cannot afford.
