On 9th September, the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) celebrated its 25th anniversary with a grand event at the historic Auberge d'Italie in Valletta, the former headquarters of the MTA. The anniversary marks a quarter of a century of commitment to promoting Malta as a world-class tourist destination, promoting economic growth and developing the visitor experience on the Maltese Islands.
The anniversary celebrations brought together past and present MTA staff, board members, CEO, management and ministers responsible for tourism. Former employees were recognised for their contributions to the success of the authority over the years, which have played a crucial role in the development of Malta’s tourism sector. The occasion also provided an opportunity to reflect on the MTA’s journey over the years and the challenges and successes it has faced along the way.
The event included speeches from key figures in Malta's tourism industry, including MTA Chairman Gavin Gulia, MTA CEO Carlo Micallef and Clayton Bartolo, Malta's Minister for Tourism.
In his speech, Chairman Gavin Gulia highlighted Malta’s transformation over the past 25 years and the MTA’s important role in diversifying its tourism offering. He noted: ”Our success is the result of the commitment and passion of everyone who has worked within the Authority, both past and present, who share the vision of making Malta a leading global travel destination.”
CEO Carlo Micallef added: ”Today, we not only celebrate the Authority’s achievements, but we also honour the legacy of those who laid the foundations for the success of the Maltese tourism industry. As we look to the future, the MTA remains committed to innovation, sustainability and strengthening Malta’s reputation in the international tourism market to ensure that tourism remains a key component of the Maltese Islands” economy.”
Minister Clayton Bartolo highlighted the government’s support for the tourism industry and its importance to Malta’s economy. He said: ”The MTA’s contribution to the development of tourism has been profound and we are determined to continue building on this path. The Authority has been a key cornerstone in creating a vibrant tourism sector that showcases our unique heritage, culture and natural beauty to the world.”
The anniversary event also included a special tribute to former MTA staff and its management, where their work and dedication were recognized with commemorative awards.
