The man was supposed to fly from Tenerife. But he was stopped shortly after the security check.

He had his dead wife with him. It was airport staff who discovered that something was wrong. The man, who is in his 80s, brought his wife forward in a wheelchair, but the woman was lifeless.

The couple made it through security but were stopped shortly afterwards.

When staff checked the woman, no signs of life were found.

– When she took the woman's hand, she noticed that the woman had an abnormally low temperature and that she was not breathing, an airport employee tells Spanish Diario de Advisos.

“The employee immediately alerted his manager. Within minutes, the emergency protocol was activated and several security personnel, Civil Guard officers and forensic personnel arrived at the scene,” the person continues.

The man's explanation

According to the man, his wife died a few hours earlier inside the airport area.

Airport employees say that the man initially tried to blame airport staff for his wife's death, writes Diario de Avisos.

The man was arrested in connection with the incident. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and will determine whether any crime has been committed.
