Marriott beat expectations in the second quarter

Hotel group Marriott International reports better-than-expected sales and profits in the second quarter. 

Revenue rose 69.5 percent to $5,338 million compared to $3,149 million last year. The outcome compares with the Factset analyst consensus of 4,924.

Operating profit was $950 million, a clear increase from SEK 486 million in the comparison quarter. The operating margin was 17.8 percent, up from 15.4 percent last year. 

Profit after tax increased to $678 million compared to SEK 422 million in the comparison quarter. 

Earnings per share came to $2.06 (1.28), which is 31.2 percent better than the analyst consensus of $1.57.

The stock rose nearly 2 percent in US pre-market trading.
