Scandic Hotel's competitor Marriott plans to increase the Courtyard brand's presence in Europe over the next two years, from the current 63 to 91 hotels.

This involves 28 new hotels which are expected to be operational by the end of 2020, according to a press release.

The expansion will be towards already established markets but will also take place in seven new European countries, including Finland, Iceland and Armenia.

In Sweden, there is a Marriott Courtyard hotel at Lindhagensplan on Kungsholmen in Stockholm.
