The American hotel chain Marriott plans to open 1,700 new hotels globally and to distribute $11 billion, equivalent to just over SEK 101 billion, to shareholders in the form of a stock dividend of up to $8.50 per share in 2021.

The hotel group announces this in an updated three-year plan ahead of Monday's Capital Markets Day.

The dividend guidance is at the top of the range from Refinitiv's analyst consensus, which was $7.65-8.50 per share.

In total, the investment would mean that 275,000-295,000 new rooms would be added to the Ritz-Carlton and St Regis owner's offering.

When the new hotels are in place and open in 2021, Marriott expects the investment to boost revenue by $700 million per year.

The hotel company's stock rose 2.3 percent in Wall Street pre-market trading.
