A person with measles was on board a Viking Lines ferry that departed from Turku for Stockholm at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, TT reports.

All passengers who were on the ferry – which was a total of approximately 3,500 people, of which approximately 2,000 were from Sweden – have been informed via email by the Public Health Agency and the shipping company.

”"People who have previously received two doses of measles vaccine, or who have had measles themselves, have good protection against the disease, which is highly contagious," writes the Public Health Agency.

The authority also points out that it is important that people with symptoms do not sit in waiting rooms or visit health centers without prior notification, as measles is a highly contagious viral disease.

People with symptoms are urged to contact healthcare via 1177.
