It's not just SAS pilots who are threatening to strike if they don't get a new agreement. The airline's mechanics, who are organized by Dansk Metal, have now also given notice of a strike from July 5, DR reports.

The dispute between SAS and the pilots is primarily about wages and working conditions, and the collective bargaining agreement between SAS Pilot Group (SPG) and SAS expired on March 31.

According to Dansk Metal's union secretary Keld Bækkelund Hansen, the conflict has escalated because SAS has established two staffing units alongside the negotiations. The staffing companies employ personnel for two subsidiaries, SAS Connect and SAS Link, which have agreed on lower remuneration.

According to DR, this makes Keld Bækkelund Hansen ask himself "whether SAS even wants to find a solution to this conflict.".
