Mexico's incoming president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has decided to sell the presidential plane as he believes it is "wasteful excess.".

Now he has also found a buyer. The person who has taken up the offer is businessman and politician Gustavo Jiménez Pons, who has made a bid of 99 million dollars, which corresponds to almost 900 million Swedish kronor, for the plane, a Boeing Dreamliner 787.

According to the Mexican newspaper Reforma, Jiménez Pons wants to use the plane a bit like a taxi, a means of transportation that will cost him around 181,000 kronor per hour. Jiménez Pons could also consider renting the plane to presidents of other countries or to rock bands like the Rolling Stones, reports the Mexican newspaper El Universal.

President López Obrador has said he will not use the plane and wants to sell it. The plane was purchased by former President Enrique Peña Nieto in 2006.
